L’Inhumaine

Dir. Marcel L'Herbier (1923). This fascinating curio stars Georgette Leblanc as a vampish concert singer. Not the story, but the incredible sets are the thing. A landmark film, it's the earliest movie to use modern architecture, and is a magnificent showcase of contemporary avant-garde French design—stunning fashions by Poiret, interiors by Leger and Chareau, exterior decor by Mallet Stevens.
