What began as a string of solo ruminations on his Left Coast childhood has turned into a septet-driven song cycle about sundowns and ghost towns entitled The Western Suite. The pianist has a vivid way with melody, so the reeds 'n' brass front line should have plenty of evocative motifs to investigate. Keep your ears on the minutia; Barth's all about nuance.
