'Osso Quartet:Sufjan Stevens' The BQE'

While we secretly wish Sufjan would get going with an album about Rhode Island, we're happy to note that the musician's latest dalliances in orchestral chamber music (Run Rabbit Run) and experimental filmmaking (The BQE) are almost as good as his songs about Michigan-based serial killers. On the former, New York's Osso Quartet reconfigure the blops and bleeps of electronic noise (the album is a reworking of Sufjan's 2001 album Enjoy Your Rabbit) using sweeping string arrangements. On the latter, Sufjan takes Gershwin to the Q Train, creating a sublime score for his flickering vistas of life during gridlock. Take Brooklyn to new heights at tonight's screening.
