Shoot the Piano Player

By Ellliott Stein

Wednesday, November 4th 2009 at 3:41am

Dir. Francois Truffaut (1960). Although it has been overrated by the director's cultists, Truffaut's second film, which stars sad-eyed Charles Aznavour as a pianist with a past, is a freer work than The 400 Blows. It's an odd pastiche of a gangster movie, lively and entertaining, but also uneven and disjointed.
