Back for its third year, the Other Israel Film Festival, which opens Thursday, gives a voice to Israel’s little-heard-from Arab minority with a range of stories—both fascinating and heartwarming—on the struggles of living between two cultures. Highlights of the eight-day fest include Roni Ninio’s Arab Labor, a satire on an Arab journalist’s search for belonging; Yun Suh’s City of Borders, an award-winning documentary about a gay bar in Jerusalem where people of all stripes can get along; and Badal, which concerns the difficulties Palestinian women face as they seek to maintain a sense of tradition while taking advantage of the opportunities offered to them as citizens of a democratic state.
