SWEET SLUMBER

D.C. punks bask in their global vision

Slumberland Records’ 20th anniversary is every bit a celebration of the D.C. DIY ethos—but you can dance to it, should noise-heavy pop melee be your bag. The spiffy little label, initially founded by members of the bands Velocity Girl and Big Jesus Trash Can, now bases its operations in Oakland, California, but have released a wide catalog of coast-to-coast influentials: Stereolab, the Softies, the Earthmen, and A Sunny Day in Glasgow have all released under their renegade umbrella. Tonight, their mates Pants Yell!, Brown Recluse, Crystal Stilts, and the Pains of Being Pure at Heart celebrate two decades of idealistic vision and boisterous present, past, and future.
