'The Butterfly Dream'

This Kunqu opera draws on the legend of Chuang Tzu, an ancient Chinese philosopher who dreamt that he was a butterfly and then awoke convinced that his waking life was just a butterfly's dream. The narrative, written 2,000 later, deals with the quest for epistemological certainty and other ways to steer your loved ones to suicide. Columbia hosts the East Coast premiere of the 18th Century masterpiece.
