Ellery Eskelin Quartet

Whether blowing tart and tempestuous or earthy and inviting, the tenor saxophonist has a sound that demands an emotional response from his listeners. And he hears things a bit different than most—hence the knotty individualism of his accordion/drums/reeds group. This foursome is new, and it's a sweet way to catch up with other young improvisers working the individualist tip. Guitarist Mary Halvorson and drummer Tyshawn Sorey are all about singularity. Bassist John Hebert is all about grace. Nice balance.
