Jazz trios gain lots of ground when they increase their pliability, and bassist Helias has forged a career that gives his music plenty of elbow room. Amorphous one second, keenly designed the next, its plurality is its power. He's been working with a string of saxophonists of late, but this mercurial approach should play out well with new mate Orrin Evans (piano) and old pal Gerald Cleaver (drums).
