Times New Viking+the Mad Scene

Another way to look at Times New Viking's willfully lo-fi recordings is that they're a conceptual enforcement of volume. The music plays like it's blisteringly loud, even when it's not. Live, then, Times New Viking is just another very loud band, but one which has taken many fine lessons in decibel/hook ratios from an underground library of pop gods, from the Velvet Underground to New Zealand legends the Clean—and halved the length of the songs. Exuberant, concise, and still totally awesome—perhaps even re-enforced by Union Pool's equally shitgaze sightlines. The Mad Scene, featuring the Clean's Hamish Kilgour, open. With the Axemen.
