The poet laureate of Tapeis urban anomie integrates Paris into his particular planetthe sense of urban solitude and geographical dislocation has affinities to the melancholy globalism mapped out by directors like Wim Wenders and Krysztof Kieçslowski, but Tsai is a comic minimalist. Filled with purposeful activity rendered gravely hilarious, his witty, wistful film is an epistemological inquiry that shoulders its philosophical burden lightly.
