L'âge d'or

Dir. Luis Bunuel (1930). Widely banned at first, Bunuel's transgressive masterpiece concerns two lovers who constantly have their sexual desires thwarted by bourgeois society, the police, and the church. Structured according to the dream logic of fear and desire, it climaxes in blasphemy. Henry Miller called it "a divine orgy," but it's basically an hour of zany coitus interruptus.
