Mon Khmer

Along with their unique name (meaning a family of Indian languages), these Brooklynites also sport an unique lineup: One of 'em toured with Albert Hammond, Jr., one of 'em leads a jazz group, and the others work as engineers. The music's hardly a mish-mash, though—a nice, low-key variety of indie rock that owes more to Bowie and Interpol than to the Strokes. It definitely helps that singer Hammarsing croons better than Bowie. With Electric Umbilical Cord and Naked Hearts.
