Sloan

While Americans donned flannel and dreamed of an irony-free Seattle, Canadians were experiencing their own '90s coastal reawakening with Halifax's Murderecords scene. At the core were dopey indie rockers Sloan, fronted by the charismatic Chris Murphy (perennially in pedophile glasses). The outfit were soon awarded their own Geffen signing for 1992's Smeared and the zenith of genius came with 1994's Twice Removed, a poppy, drippy ode to puckish media slam and girls who wear glasses. While Sloan has aged about as well as Mother Love Bone, the band's professionalism and captivating camaraderie assure that you won't leave Maxwell's disappointed. With Magenta Lane.
