Somehow the bassist has no trouble aligning prog-rock design and jazz disposition. On last year's Cryptogramophone opus and its subsequent gigs, this band showed us how cinematic (don't think soundtrack-y) their music can be. It's all about waxing evocative and stressing texture while making sure all the cleverness is more than a mere facade. By the time they move from the space drone to the horn fanfare to the playground pulse, you'll know it's MUCH more.
