Boom

Dir. Joseph Losey (1968). This translation to film of Tennessee Williams's much-revised play The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore is a serio-comic drama of jet set dolce vita. Shot in bleakly beautiful locations in Sardinia, it stars Liz Taylor as a screechy nouveau riche gorgon, who has buried six husbands. The character called "the witch of Capri" written for a female, is played by Noel Coward, who whoops it up with relish. Should you see Boom at BAM? Yes—it's a mess, but a one-of-a-kind mess.
