Theatermakers put up their dukes
In the red corner, weighing in at 2,400 years of history, we have theater—and in the blue corner, we have brawling, a much older tradition. Let’s get ready to rumble! This winter, the Brick Theater debuts its first annual Fight Fest, a tribute to the fists, knives, and nunchaku that enliven the stage. Curated by Qui Nguyen and Tim Haskell, the offerings include the yakuza-mad Butterfly, Butterfly, Kill, Kill, Kill!; The Buccaneer, in which a genial pirate battles the Queen of Spain; Craven Monkey and the Mountain of Fury, “in which monkeys and monsters beat the crap out of each other”; and The Ninja Cherry Orchard. Let’s hope the playbills are bulletproof.
