Whatever misconceptions you have about bookworms, librarians, and the likereclusive, unattractive shut-insyou best throw them out the window. Just because their lives are consumed with all things literary does not mean they dont like to down a few rounds of liquor. They do. But not just for the hell of it, either, like the rest of us dothey party it up for a good cause. The Desk Set, a group of New York Cityarea librarians, archivists, and bibliophiles, is hosting Biblioball 2009: Baby, Its Cold Outsidea party to raise money for the nonprofit Literacy for Incarcerated Teens. And the organizers arent leaving any room for boredom: The entire evening is packed with live music (Nine/11 Thesaurus, The Rude Mechanical Orchestra, and Lucky Chops Brass Band), foot juggling and trapeze artists, DJ sets by Jonathan Toubin of New York Night Train, Duane Harriott, and Rob Sheffield, photos and illustrated portraits, and food by La Tia Faby Baked Goods and Sweetie Pies. As the Desk Set members say, You dont have to be a librarian to join the partyyou just have to dance with one! Well, if we must.
