INDIAN IN THE BOARDS

Electro experimentalist chills a bit

VEGA electro-popper Alan Palomo goes in a gentler, caterwauling direction in Neon Indian, his third conceit in as many years. Much like the similarly monikered Neon Neon, the project borrows from the currently ubiquitous ’80s nostalgia—his “Cheerleader ‘Sega Genesis P-Orridge’ RMX” respins Grizzly Bear with heavy, percolating glee and ghostly, sighing vocal enumerations over calmly building synth hooks. Mercury’s giving him two nights to build a more thoughtful dance party; he may just deliver.
