More About

Dir. Jean Cocteau (1950). Through the figure of Orpheus, Cocteau explores his obsession with the role of the poet, torn between the familiar and the unknown. The director's real-life lover, Jean Marais, is the poet, living in modern Paris and fascinated by a princess who is the emissary of Death. It seems a bit dated now, but on the whole, it remains a stimulating dream-world adventure, populated by a handsome cast.
