If your mind were as imaginative and complex as that of Mexican artist Gabriel Orozco’s, you could easily transform your beat-up compact ’93 Honda into a single-passenger luxury sedan. The Museum of Modern Art is now exhibiting several such Orozco sculptures and installations in a retrospective that contains many of his most famous pieces, including the silver modified Citroën and checkered graphite on skull, which have never been seen in New York. The artist’s career shot up significantly in the early ’90s because of his conceptual installation pieces like the four-bicycle mashup and modified elevator cabin (also on display). Several of his smaller pieces, including his drawings, photography, and paintings, will also be shown.
Mondays, Wednesdays-Sundays, 6:30 p.m. Starts: Dec. 16. Continues through March 1, 2009
