'Unsilent Night'

New York's hippest holiday tradition—Phil Kline's boombox processional, Unsilent Night—returns for its 18th installment. Originally a multi-part cassette composition, Kline's piece now resides on CD, mp3, and in 24 other cities. Its purpose is unchanged: A shimmering sound-wall of bells and chimes that is dreamlike to wander through in the December nip and (presumably) even more bizarre to encounter at random. The dynamics, socio-economic and musical, change annually with the mutating urban topography of its path from the Washington Square Park arch to Tompkins Square Park. No excuses this year: Go.
