Dude gets house every time he puts the reed to his lip, and last year's trio date reiterated the depth of both his stamina and ideas. But the focus that comes with McCaslin's mid-sized ensemble arrangements on the recent Declaration is utterly appealing as well, and maybe more effective. The brass-centric nonet (tuba, French horn, trumpet) that drives the tunes at this gig boasts a few fire-starters as well, so there will be more to tickle you than well-designed charts.
