More About
Growing up, one of New York Citybased composer and singer Jordan Wentworth Farrars favorite fairy tales was Victorian-era writer George MacDonalds The Day Boy and the Night Girl, about a boy and a girl imprisoned by the sorcery of the she-wolf Watho. But in adapting the work for its world premiere tonight at Symphony Space, Wentworth Farrar, who performed in rock bands in Seattle before coming to New York to focus on opera at the recently shuttered Amato, decided not to reread the story. Instead, she said she wanted to take the premise of the book and make it my own. And indeed, thats just what shes done. After a recital of the opera in New York, Curator magazine called it a new and unusual work. The After Dinner Opera Company commissioned the three-act operapacked with magical mermaids, shimmering fireflies, and a romantic love storyto celebrate its 60th anniversary.
