rick waldron, What's that comment suppose to prove? "Some of this is great - some of this is garbage." That's called disagreement... and if there is something specific you disagree with name it! "some of this is the same old jazz critics trying to show how 'hip' they can be - it ain't "cool" unless it's free jazz -- Coleman, Cecil Taylor, Stockhausen wannabes -" I happen to like a lot of free-jazz. I also happen to dislike a lot of free-jazz and I am not a jazz critic, just a music fan. This comment does not really express anything except some vague critique of the nature of jazz criticism. I have no idea what your tastes are (except apparently a dislike for modern free-jazz I'm guessing). I can't even tell if you've listened to any of this music... sorry if I'm rambling on here but I just don't see what your problem is. Other than it's an eclectic list of music, some of which you like, some of which you don't.

It seems, from the lists above, that the announcements of the demise of jazz are premature. Young and old, various shades of beige, male or female, American or elsewhere, jazz is thriving. At least in terms of releases, if not sales. Great Top 50, though. Just great.
