Oh! You Pretty Things

Rocking out with Au Revoir Simone and Alexa Wilding

The lovely ladies of Brooklyn’s Au Revoir Simone haven’t done much to alter their simple synth-pop sound over the course of the three full-lengths they’ve released since 2005. But that dogged devotion to a template has enabled them to find new depth in a style often taken up as a lark by their hipster-haven peers; last year’s Still Night, Still Light is lovely and haunting in equal measure. According to the band’s Twitter, the Simones have worked up a “secret cover song and stage decorations” for tonight’s show. (Don’t expect a prom-night “Shiny Happy People.”) Local dream-folk chick Alexa Wilding recently told Page Six magazine that she gets “nostalgic for Manhattan before it was fancy,” yet a certain kind of Victorian-era fanciness is precisely what sets her singing and strumming apart from that of the MySpace masses. Also with Class Actress.
