More About

Dir. Alexander Dovzhenko (1928). Dovzhenko would always claim this complicated epic, made in the Odessa studio, as the first of his films, dismissing his earlier work as juvenile efforts. Generally considered incomprehensible by its original audience, it's an ambitious epic, ranging over centuries, to link the modern, revolutionary Ukraine with its distant past. The director observed: "Zvenigora is a catalogue of all my creative possibilities."
