BELLE DU JOUR

Two nights with Charlotte Gainsbourg and Beck pals

Last year, she turned heads (and the occasional stomach) with her penis-smashing performance in Lars von Trier's Antichrist, and now Charlotte Gainsbourg—the multitalented hipster-bait daughter of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin—is back with another bold artistic statement in the form of IRM, her delightful new electro-folk album. After making 2006's 5:55 with Nigel Godrich, Jarvis Cocker, and the French-pop pervs of Air, Gainsbourg enlisted Beck to co-write and produce IRM; the result is catchier and more song-oriented than the ambient-soul 5:55, with her sexy-breathy vocals laid over percolating tracks full of psych-groove guitars and sci-fi synths. For these two intimate album-release gigs, Gainsbourg will be backed by a band that'll include several of Beck's regular side peeps.
Tue., Jan. 19, 8 p.m.; Wed., Jan. 20, 8 p.m., 2010
