The Parson's Widow

Dir. Carl Dreyer (1920). Those who believe that all of Dreyer's work is imbued with doom and gloom should take a look at this charming and tender early character comedy shot on location in Norway about a young curate forced, in order to obtain a living, to marry the aged widow of the previous incumbent. It combines a lyrical documentary feeling with rough rural humor.
