Now that every band in Brooklyn from Surfer Blood to Real Estate has turned surf rock into a druggy, shitgaze drone, go back to the genre's roots with the original pioneers of the Hawaii Five-O. Originally from Tacoma, Washington, band mates Don Wilson and Bob Bogle patented the lovelorn reverb guitar effects heard in tracks such as "Walk, Don't Run" and "Perfidia" in the '60s, influencing the punk and new wavers who heard the quiet in their storm. Today, Wilson continues the Ventures' Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame-inducted legacy where, like any slice of classic American kitsch, they're big in Japan. With the Rhodes.
