The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

Robert Wiene (1919). One of the most inspired horror films ever made, and a key work in the history of film design, Wiene's expressionistic masterpiece, the first significant film example of the style, concerns a side-show hypnotist who uses a somnambulist to carry out his murders. The sets are stunning and Conrad Veidt is superb as the sleepwalking killer.
