HOT AND COLD

A theater festival in the winter?

You know it's summer in New York when your mascara melts before you've even left the house—and when theater festivals fill every spare, un-air-conditioned proscenium below 14th Street with hundreds of new works. But Horse Trade Theater Group's New York FRIGID Festival likes to do things a little bit differently, like put up productions in spaces you are actually glad are warm. It also accepts 30 participants on a first-come, first-served basis, and gives the artists 100 percent of the box office—not your average festival behavior. That makes for an eclectic lineup, covering everything from the Greeks to "Harold"-style improv. Begins tonight, through March 7, the Kraine Theater & the Red Room, 85 East 4th Street, and Under St. Marks, 94 St. Marks Place
Feb. 24-March 7, 2010
