A Downtown-ish supergroup formed in 1983 to accompany hippie juggling legends the Flying Karamazov Brothers (who happen to be playing the Minetta Lane Theater right now), the Kamikaze Ground Crew plays circus music, New Orleans jazz, and early vaudeville staples with brassy panache. Co-led by saxophonist Gina Leishman and woodwinder Doug Wieselman, the Crew also features saxophonist Peter Apfelbaum, trumpeter Steven Bernstein, and drummer Kenny Wolleson, all estimable bandleaders themselves.
