Masters of Persian Music

These Iranian cultural treasures exude stately gravitas as they ply their virtuoso chops. Kayhan Kalhor, probably the most familiar to New Yorkers, is a master of the kamancheh spike fiddle; Hossein Alizadeh dominates the lute, and Hamid Reza Nourbakhsh is the foremost disciple of Iran's greatest singer, Mohammad Reza Shajarian. Fariborz Azizi (bass tar), Siamak Jahangiry (ney flute), Pezhham Akhavass (tombak goblet drum), and Rouzbeh Rahimi (santur zither) will accompany them.
