Thought you'd never hear Miles' bassist playing "Pretty Polly"? Think again. Like many of the guitarist's groups, this is a go-anywhere, do-anything trio that weeps with Hank Williams and gets misterioso with Monk. Frisell and Motian's chemistry is well documented; it's Carter's wiles that stick out here. He limns each piece with oodles of logic, conflating brains and grace with each deep pluck of his strings.
