The opening night of the Armory Show, New York's annual big-buckarooni art fair, could probably stand to find a band artier than local indie heroes the Walkmen. But, hey, proceeds go to MOMA and P.S.1—so you want tons and tons of people to actually show up and donate, right? Luckily for indie fans and modern-art fans alike, the mighty Walkmen are having the best year ever: They made the leap to suddenly shit-hot label Fat Possum (Wavves, Black Eyes, etc.); they've signed on to play the NPR showcase at SXSW with Spoon; they've been hand-picked by Pavement to play ATP Festival in the U.K.; and they sell out pretty much every show—even though tickets for this are $100, it will probably be no exception. They're hard at work on their sixth album, which should hopefully contain at least one song as bombastic, melodramatic, joyous, and effortlessly cool as their 2004 cult hit "The Rat." Joining them will be Human Rights, an experimental something-or-the-other that features members of Beirut, Psychic Ills, No Regular Play, and Volcano the Bear. With DFA-endorsed DJ Justin Miller.
