PLAYING THE VICTIM

NYHC trailblazers’ classic lineup revisits a classic release

In New York’s music history, few bands have been angrier, sweatier, or tattooier than hardcore archetypes Agnostic Front. In 1984, they issued their angry, dirty, and now-classic second release, Victim in Pain. It was arguably the first New York hardcore record and remains one of the subgenre’s most cherished—all 15 minutes of it—despite being out of print for much of the past quarter-century. Last year, punk label Bridge Nine gave it a well-deserved deluxe reissue, and in the spirit of reflection, frontman Roger Miret and guitarist Vinnie Stigma, who have kept the band going, will be joined once again by ViPbassist Rob Kabula and drummer Dave Jones to play every last bloody minute of the EP at this one-time-only show. If it’s anything like their shows in ‘84, they’ll play the 48-second title track three times just to fill up their set. With Antidote, Urban Waste, Ultra Violence, and Sexual Suicide.
