Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

Dir. Mel Stuart (1971). A boy wins a tour of a mysterious chocolate factory and finds himself in the power of a magician in this good-looking musical fantasy based on a novel by Roald Dahl. Gene Wilder gives the best and most controlled performance of his career as the eccentric candymaker. The music is forgettable, but there are some first-rate moments.
