You can personally congratulate/console Sapphire for the Oscar wins/losses of the film based on her searing novel Push. She’s one Feminist Press author who will be in attendance at tonight’s party celebrating the 40th anniversary of the literary institution. The Press got its start in the early ‘70s by reissuing some of the most important “lost” feminist works of Victorian-era America; in recent years, it has published two collections of work by Iraqi blogger Riverbend and the first book by experimental filmmaker Barbara Hammer. On hand for tonight’s celebration are performance artist Karen Finley, whose current stage show The Jackie Look just garnered an extension; high-flying choreographer Elizabeth Streb; and hip-hop artist Toni Blackman. Ever the feminist himself, Justin Bond serves as emcee.
