Secret Beyond the Door

Dir. Fritz Lang (1948). A remarkable film, much better than its rep, and a stylish example of Hollywood's infatuation with Freud during the 1940s, this bizarre thriller stars damsel in distress Joan Bennett as an heiress married to a strange architect who collects rooms where murders have occurred. With his ambiguous charm and equivocal sexuality, Michael Redgrave, in his first American movie, is perfectly cast as the sinister spouse.
