Since Memory Tapes’ live show seems to be letting everyone down, come see another one of chillwave’s rising stars, Georgian Earnest Greene, a/k/a the smeary, bleary, teary, weary one-man tape jam known as Washed Out. Of all the glo-fi bands (unless you count Nite Jewel, which we don’t), Greene best understands the art-pop/chart-pop axis of the ‘80s—think Tears for Fears, Pet Shop Boys, OMD, INXS, and Depeche Mode. However, a retro-merchant he isn’t, since he buries it all under a hundred electric blanket layers of tape damage, distortion, and nostalgic yearning. Back in September, he told Pitchforkhe wouldn’t be touring—but this show is the second date on a two-month journey that will take his battered keyboard all around the country. With locals Small Black, who also know their way around a melting tape deck, and Denver micro-goth prankster Pictureplane.
Sun., March 7, 7 p.m.; Mon., March 8, 7 p.m., 2010
