Alkaline Trio

It wasn't all that long ago that Alk3 lyrics, all seemingly about girls and burning, basically had a stranglehold on suburban teenagers' AIM profiles (kids, that's like Twitter for old people). And much like those fans, the band grew up right around 2003's Good Mourning, which finally made apparent singer Matt Skiba's muted but direct lineage back to the hotheaded squawking of Sunny Day Real Estate frontman Jeremy Enigk. Still, their occasionally overblown Styrofoam emo and pop-punk packaging counts as a step in the opposite direction. With Cursive and the Dear & Departed.
