Dir. Dimitri Kirsanov (1934).
Russian emigre Kirsanov independently made a few silent filmsone of them, Menilmontant, was a pure masterpiece. He later directed this story of Swiss mountain villages divided by cultural and religious tensions. It remains one of the most inventive European films of the period, notable especially for its soundtrack.
