The Prowler

Dir. Joseph Losey (1951) An expressionist spin on Double Indemnity, Joseph Losey’s tawdry tale of sexual power relations anticipates his early ‘60s comeback, The Servant. As the unfaithful wife, Evelyn Keyes walks through the movie in a trance, helplessly in thrall to Van Heflin’s big-faced, self-entitled cop. Like Losey’s other studio films, The Prowler involved a number of Hollywood Reds, including Dalton Trumbo who furnished the script through a front.
