GREEK 911

Snacks and a miraculous salvation

The new dance-theater work Rescue Me is not a balletic version of the popular FX series about beleaguered firefighters. (A shame, perhaps. We would pay a lot to see Denis Leary in a pair of tights.) Instead, playwright Michi Barall has achieved a contemporary adaptation of Euripides’ romance Iphigenia in Tauris. Subtitled “A Postmodern Classic With Snacks” (yay, snacks!), the show stars Jennifer Ikeda as Iph and David Greenspan as the virgin goddess Artemis. Years ago, Artemis helped Iph (the scion of one of the Greek stage’s most dysfunctional families) escape her own ritual sacrifice. But, as Iph learns, miraculous salvation isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Loy Arcenas directs the neoclassical shenanigans for Ma-Yi Theatre Company.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 2:30 p.m. Starts: March 23. Continues through April 18, 2010
