'Master Class with William Christie'

William Christie's success as a conductor should be attributed to his basic musical philosophy—that when reviving a long-dead form, divining is always more effective than resuscitating. For forty years, the harpsichordist, musicologist, and BAM Opera Festival founder has touched up obscure and fragmented Baroque-era manuscripts and, through his Paris-based ensemble Les Arts Florissants, vividly channeled the color and wit of 17th century Europe. He's a Dr. Frankenstein to be sure, but the sheer musicality of his work speaks for itself. During this master class, Christie will critique performances by members of the Juilliard Baroque, a group established in 2009.
