SEEKING JUSTICE

The MOMA covers three decades of William Kentridge

Born in 1955 in Johannesburg, influential South African artist William Kentridge was deeply influenced by the apartheid-era atrocities that surrounded him. In Five Themes, his large-scale exhibit covering three decades of drawings and animated films, you’ll become well acquainted with his corpulent character Soho Eckstein, a greedy white industrialist who slowly awakens to the role he has played in his country’s social injustices. The show also includes his books, prints, sculptures, and collages and an installation on his recent staging of Shostakovich’s The Nose for the Metropolitan Opera.
