The Red Chapel

Dir. Mads Brügger (2009). Winner of the World Documentary prize at Sundance, this Danish doc is something like Lars von Trier’s Idiots transposed to North Korea. Mads Brügger’s satire of cultural exchange is fascinating in part because it is next to impossible to figure out who is using whom although it does certainly seem as though the filmmaker managed to play the Dear Leader’s Stalinist terror state for a colossal stooge.
