DOUBLE BUBBLE

Kayo Dot touch another world

"Classical meets metal" generally suggests some sort of Metallica tribute by a string ensemble (like discarded playing cards around the city, there are far more than you'd think), but Kayo Dot boast an unusual creativity where the twain unite. The co-ed duo spin jazzy brass and keys with winding, eerily matched vocals, then couple that with arresting, spastic plucks on violin and guitar. They're as experimental as you'd expect from veterans of Tzadik, the label owned by John Zorn, local jazz dignitary and curator of equally atypical East Village space the Stone. This gig celebrates the release of Coyote, their ambient, long-form fourth LP and debut on Hydra Head Records. With Bauder, Evans, Wooley & Cymerman Amplified Quartet, and Kevin Hufnagel.
Sun., April 11, 9 p.m., 2010
