Fresh off a short stint with his former band, stoner-metal legends Sleep, High on Fire frontman Matt Pike sounds more grizzled than ever on his sludge-metal power trio's latest, Snakes for the Divine. This album captures their live sound almost perfectly as Pike gurgles over crushing, Sabbath riffs—a sound best supported by watching the singer-guitarist play these songs while wearing a sweat-stained wife beater, a cigarette dangling from his lower lip. It's also the first record to feature the same lineup twice (their fourth bassist is a keeper), so maybe consistency is the key. With Priestess, Black Cobra, and Bison B.C.
